It's the 8th Anniversary of the very first THE PAUL F. TOMPKINS
SHOW

That's right! In March of 2002, THE PAUL F. TOMPKINS SHOW made its debut at a little nightclub called Largo! It went on for a few years, and then Paul stopped doing it! He was going through some stuff! He got through that stuff! Then he started doing the show again! Then he moved to New York for a year, and couldn't do the show! Then, his job in New York got canceled, he moved back to Los Angeles! And he started doing THE PAUL F. TOMPKINS SHOW again! And now here we are!

And so, in that joyfully convoluted vein, he invites you to attend THE PAUL F. TOMPKINS EIGHTH (OR SIXTH) ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL!

With special guests:

ED HELMS (The Office, The Hangover)

and musical guests

THE WATKINS FAMILY!

Plus, some cool surprises that are actually pretty cool!

YOU WON'T WANT TO MISS THIS ONE!
YOU WILL WANT TO BRING SOMEONE WHO HASN'T SEEN THE SHOW BEFORE AND LOOK LIKE A GENIUS!

When: Thursday, March 25th 8:30PM
Where: Largo at The Coronet
366 N. La Cienega Boulevard
West Hollywood, CA 90048
Reservations: (310) 855-0350
How Much: $25

swoon

Dear Nathan Fillion,

If you could be less adorable my privacy zones would really appreciate it, since they haven't had the pleasure of meeting you (in person).

John Cusack in the rain

cutey pants sure tends to film scenes with water. i was kind of hoping they'd include him getting snowed on in Serendipity, but snow and rain are 2 very different things i guess.

moral of this clip: John has only ever looked unappealing in Being John Malkovich.

you guys, i miss Dog Bites Man so much. so so much.

The leftovers from the collapse of Miramax are starting to make their way out into the world, one of the first being the romantic-comedy "The Switch" starring Jason Bateman, Jennifer Aniston and Patrick Wilson. Formerly titled "The Baster," the plot revolves around Wally (Bateman), a man in unrequited love for his female best friend, Cassie (Aniston). She's decided to have a baby via a sperm donor, Roland (Wilson), but, due to a series of drunken mistakes, Wally ends up swapping Roland's sample for his. Seven years later, Cassie returns to New York, with a son in tow who bears a striking resemblance to Wally.

It all sounds fairly unpromising, particularly with Juliette Lewis, who this writer has a more-or-less chemical aversion to, among the cast list. But there's a reason we did put it in our Most Anticipated list for 2010; there's an unusual pedigree to the project, which is based on a short story by "The Virgin Suicides" author Jeffrey Eugenides, and features a script by Allan Loeb ("Things We Lost in the Fire"), and in fact, the trailer doesn't look too bad. Bateman, as ever, is showing off his supernaturally good comic timing, Jeff Goldblum will, as ever, walk away with every scene he's in, and there even looks to be that absolute rarity, a decent performance by a child actor. Directors Josh Gordon and Will Speck ("Blades of Glory") have plenty to overcome still before we buy our tickets (the mid August release date doesn't bode particularly well, and there's something slightly, well, rapey about the premise), but it looks like this could have been much worse.

America's Worst Driver

Here's my pal Jill Simonian talking about America's Worst Driver, which premieres on The Travel Channel this Sunday.

I had the pleasure of working on this show briefly and making pals with the contestants that landed in the finals.

Read more about America's Worst Driver at The Travel Channel site and watch it if you like seeing cars get treated like crap.

Don Glover has good luck

that's one thing i learned from this NY Times article.

other than the fact that the interviewer repeatedly calls him "Mr. Glover" which just sounds too Formal McFancystein, this is an informative article (if you didn't already know shit about him, which I did.)

the one time i'm not at UCB

it is horrible and ugly and not fair that i didn't get tickets to this show tonight.

A Night of 140 Tweets: A Benefit for Haiti

Join Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel (MTV's Human Giant) when they welcome 140 Twitterers from the world of comedy, music, sports, and entertainment to the Upright Citizens Brigade stage to each perform one of their signature tweets in front of a live audience.

140 performers. One night only.

This isn't a bit. This show will have 140 performers.

It's the world's first live Tweet Stream. (It’s probably a Guinness Book World Record or something; Look it up!)

In a partnership with STILLERSTRONG & FUNNY OR DIE all proceeds from the event will go to Architecture for Humanity which is helping to rebuild Haiti.

2 pairs i can get behind. (that's what he said)?

Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman starring in a movie together, written by The Hangover peeps? CAN MY LOINS handle it?

and

Jason Segel and Ed Helms going 'Home'

Jason Segel and Ed Helms are starring in "Jeff Who Lives at Home," a stoner comedy from Mark and Jay Duplass. The film is in the process of being set up at Paramount.

The Duplass brothers, who are writing and directing the feature, are producing with Jason Reitman via his Right of Way Films. John Malkovich's Mr. Mudd shingle is also producing.

Written by the brothers, the pic chronicles a day in the life of two brothers, one a loser (Segel) who lives at home and the other (Helms) more together but overbearing.

The role of their mother is being cast; Judy Greer is in talks to play Helms' wife.

Shooting is set to begin next month in Louisiana.

SAY WHAT!?

I just received the following email that blew my socks off:

Dear Nicole,

ArcLight Cinemas will be opening our newest venue, ArcLight Pasadena, in time for the summer season. The conversion of the Pacific Paseo Theater in the Paseo Colorado center will give our many Pasadena area members the ArcLight experience right at their doorstep. As with our current locations, at ArcLight Pasadena you will be able to enjoy the unparalleled sight and sound of our auditoriums, choose from the same wide variety of films and reserve your seats online with no additional fee. ArcLight Pasadena will also feature our innovative programming including Q&A’s with filmmakers, exhibits from films and 21+ screenings.

We look forward to seeing you there.

It is stupid annoying that I didn't know about this until now, and I'm sure I'll remain loyal to the OG Arclight because Sherman Oaks sucks but this is great news nonetheless.
Good luck getting people in Pasadena to STFU during movies.

Ok Go!

I think this might be the greatest thing that ever happened. no joke.
